SUPER TROUPER LIGHTS ARE GONNA FIND ME & b u t i w o n ' t f e e l b l u e l i k e i a l w a y s d o CUZ SOMEWHERE IN THE CROWD IS YOU - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - One could say it was rare that Renesmee Cullen ever entered a forest without the intention of hunting, but that’d be wrong. Many a time she went into the forest just for a nice walk. The thing was, she usually came out of the forest well fed. Sometimes, it was just too tempting to take down a stag, or tackle a bear to the ground (not that there were any wild bears in Ireland, and Nessie wasn’t prepared to steal from a zoo…) She had to wrestle with her food a bit more than the rest of her family might (besides Emmett, who happened to like to play with his food…) but she always got the better of her meal. Sometimes she would just be wandering aimlessly through the forest and the scent of an animal would catch her attention, and all she would be able to think was “why not?” before she gave into her instincts and hunted. In her opinion, it was better for the human population that she didn’t resist hunting an animal on a whim. Better safe than sorry – she wanted to keep her record as clean as her mother’s and Carlisle’s, and she was already starting to make friends. To think of hurting someone that her friends even knew was disturbing to Nessie.
So she had walked into the forest with simply the intention of going for a walk with Jake. She hadn’t seen him immediately when she entered the forest, so she figured something must have held him up. Nessie spent the majority of her time with him, so it was OK that he was a little late, right? She waited for him for about two seconds before she got awkward standing at the edge of the forest. It wouldn’t be a problem for him to find her, she knew, so Renesmee ventured past the tree line, knowing that Jake would be able to follow her scent and find where she had been. Looking around at the brown trunks of the trees and the green leaves and the brown and gold ones that littered the forest floor, Renesmee could almost imagine that she was in Forks again. She could imagine the cottage, the clearing where the family played baseball games… she could imagine the smell of the dirt and the rock that the Cullen Mansion was settled on… Nessie could picture herself there. She just couldn’t think about the rolling green hills of Ireland, or that accent that all of her peers had… and the moment she thought of the accent, and the landscape, the illusion was broken. Nessie hadn’t noticed that she’d closed her eyes to think about her hometown, so when she found herself opening them, she got a little jolt.
She really wanted to go home. Ireland was rainy and green, but it didn’t have the Reservation, or all of her friends. Her family was here, and the majority of them were used to moving around, but Nessie wasn’t. She longed for her family’s old cottage, and for the familiar forest, and everything that spelled out home for her. She missed the green, and the rain, and all of her friends, and –
And the smell took her by surprise as she was thinking of her home. A silka deer, one of the less common species of Ireland, had wondered away from a larger heard Nessie had seen before she entered the thick of the forest. Normally, she knew, they liked more open spaces – or at least that was where she saw them the most. She simply couldn’t help herself, though. Her instincts had already kicked in without Nessie even being aware that they’d taken over. She had dropped into a crouch and was stalking the unknowing creature. He was a large buck with large antlers. The deer was nibbling at a patch of grass that had managed to grow near a tree’s roots. Nessie crept forward, and she was almost within pouncing distance before she snapped a twig under her foot. The deer snapped his head up and looked straight at Renesmee, and she took a running jump and tackled the deer, killing it instantly and draining it quickly. Once she straightened up and wiped her mouth on the back of her hand, she looked down at herself. There was a spot of blood on her new blouse. Nessie frowned, picking at it, trying to wipe it off with her thumb. She only managed to smudge it, making the stain more pronounced. Frustrated now, Nessie rubbed her thumb into the stain hard. She knew it was the wrong thing to do, and it would work the stain in… Esme had taught her. She knew that she was going about getting the stain out wrong, but she couldn’t help it – she was frustrated with herself. Could she never just go into the forest for a walk and not hunt? It was infuriating, and also for the better. She couldn’t help but think of her new friend Erin, cold and lifeless, drained of her blood. Nessie quickly forgave herself for hunting the stag and took it by the horns, dragging it’s body out of view, stowing it near a tree. Rest in peace, she thought at the stag.

acob's back was slammed violently against the wall of the pack's home. The force of the throw caused two of the picture frames hanging fragilely on the wall to fall off the wall, though Jacob heard no shattering of glass. Even in the face of his violent assault, he was somewhat relieved that there wouldn't be even more of a mess for him to have to clean up later. And then again, no doubt Ewan would likely tell Kieran that the mettled state of the house had been his fault, and Jacob would need to relive this incident all over again. His eyes momentarily left Ewan's, caramel brown eyes examining the mess that the two had caused from their tussle, emitting a low groan from his throat. Great, he thought savagely to himself, nothing like adding insult to injury.... He was forced to look back at Ewan by a swift blow to his gut, which caused Jacob to sputter for a gasp of breath. In the next few minutes, Ewan had muttered something that would be totally inaudible to the human ear, but the threat sunk deep. In the heat of the beatdown, Jake had completely forgotten what had set Ewan off in the first place.
Ewan released him by swiftly shoving him against the wall one final time, Jacob's head bouncing off the stucco-like interior. He coughed for a minute or two as his lungs caught back up with their breathing. The cuts on his shoulders he knew would heal in no time, but it wasn't the physical inflictions that bothered him the most. How was it possible to hate somebody that you barely even knew, let alone even given the chance to get to know them? His giant hand caressed his adam's apple gingerly, wincing at the stinging pain that was left from where Ewan cupped it and initiated the inital shove. He did not fight back, not wanting to bring more punishment down on him later for an act so ludicrous. All Jacob did, if he reckoned correctly, had added his two cents about why Ewan's corned beef and cabbage hadn't turned out perfectly and the next thing that he was aware of was the entire boiling pot being tossed onto him; splashing him in addition to to an antique stitched rug on the floor. The pot lay discarded several feet away from him, as Jacob's body slid down the wall as Ewan slammed the door. A gutteral moan emitted from his throat as soon as Jacob was aware Ewan was out of earshot, his arms finding the tender area around his middle.
He'd almost forgotten that he and Nessie were to take a walk later that same evening, so he did not remain in his current position long. After the pain had dissipated long enough for him to move his diaphragm without a stabbing feeling stopping him in his tracks, Jake began to clean up the mess that had been made. He'd mopped, rung the rug out several times and hand washed it traditionally on a hogwash board, then hung it outside on the clothes line to dry. He prepared a new pot of corned beef and cabbage, figuring it would probably be near ready by the time Kieran would get off of work for the day, so as much as Jacob wished he would, Ewan wouldn't catch the wrath for it not being or close to being done. He finished up the unpleasant task by rubbing the last scratch off the second frame that fell to the ground and squared both of them back to their places on the wall. By the time Jacob had finished, the room looked untouched and then some; not a fleck of dust anywhere to set Kieran off, nor a throw pillow out of place. Just the play Kieran liked it. Because in this household, Kieran's way was the law if you valued your life, even though Jacob would gladly have had it ended about an hour ago, had it not been for the millions of steel cables that drew him to the forest only a mile or two from the residence.
By phasing into his wolf form, Jacob would get to Nessie in better time. He was already late as it was and was beginning to feel terribly guilty for it. Connor was never late, as she sometimes liked to remind him when Jacob would promise to escort her back to the Cullen manor from school, which often included many sidetracks. It was well guessed by now that Renesmee was no longer a novice when it came to physical affection... No, no, Jacob would never allow their relationship to go that far... yet, but it was painstakingly obvious that the girl had acquired experience when she wreaked of him and vice versa. Bella herself had even begun to have her doubts about the imprinting process, despite Jacob's protests that things hadn't become that involved. Jake bided his time now for ten years and was more than capable of holding out for however long that Renesmee wished. As long as she was happy, he was exuberant... even whenever he was having the bullslop beat out of him on a daily basis. Her scent came loomingly into his radar, and the wolf smiled in relief knowing that his pain would temporarily be drowned out in just a few seconds.
Her attack came quick and swiftly, and seemed to happen almost right next to his head. Jake had not heard her, of course; despite her clumsy misdemeanor (which unfortunately she had inherited from Bella), Nessie could be very stealthy when she was in the zone. Her hunting was something that both turned him on and scared the shit out of him. Since her birth she was always this timid, quiet child but when she was engrossed in the hunt became something entirely different. She was fierce and wild when her instincts took over, and for whatever reason Jacob loved watching her when she was this way. A pleasurable shudder rippled along his spine as Renesmee tackled her victim, a stag sika deer, to the ground and watched as she drained all life from the poor creature. Jacob whined, alerting her of his presence before he turned around and disappeared behind a thick tree to change into the clothes he'd managed to cart along.
The denim felt contricting to his legs as they screamed with the heat now forced against them, his chest doing the same against the fabric of his slate grey tee shirt. Jake knelt down and rolled the hem of his jeans up, imitating the look of a woman's pair of capri pants, but could care less as the rainy mist felt nice against his legs. Finally, he stepped out into the clearing just as she was finishing her kill, a warm smile etched onto his face. He took his place directly behind her, resting one hand on her right shoulder and the other one declining still to offer a hand to help her up. Jake chuckled, watching her clean the animal blood from her lips. Renesmee had remained crouched for a moment. She’d heard Jake’s whine – Nessie had known he would find her. The only thing was, she was so tired of Ireland already – not really Ireland, but it’s wildlife. She was very irked that it was only a silka deer she’d taken down. If she was really interested in being well fed, she’d have to kill a couple to get that sloshy, well-fed feeling. Or she would have to go eat a sandwich… either would suffice. She didn’t need as much food if she wanted to sustain herself, but the thing was, blood was so much more appetizing. It didn’t always matter to her that she had to get more blood to feel full than she had to eat food, simply because food was harder for her to eat. Sometimes things just tasted plain disgusting to Nessie. She couldn’t stand certain types of foods, such as potato chips or pretzels… Ice cream was OK sometimes… salsa was good (she ate it without chips, which frightened a few people) Hot Pepper Jelly was OK if there was cream cheese and saltine crackers (which weren’t her favorite thing, but were OK if paired with the sweet/spicy jelly…) Nessie was just very particular with what she ate.
When Jacob’s hand rested on her shoulder, she didn’t jump. The warm touch of his hand kept her from rising for a moment. Everyone else usually felt cool to her – she did run a high temperature – but Jake was closer to her own temp, if not a bit warmer, which she liked. She turned, but didn't look up at him right away. Instead, she looked at the ground as his deep voice filled the forest.
"I don't think that I'll ever get tired of that," he complimented, "Nice tackle, Ness!"
When she finally looked up at him, Nessie smiled a little. She might have said thanks, but instead she just smiled a little without showing any teeth. Just a lip smile. She knew it didn’t matter if she thanked him or not. It was easier being with Jake than being with anyone else she could think of. It was all so natural. She suddenly didn’t mind as much that her new blouse was ruined (and it was really her fault for trying to rub out the stain.) She didn’t mind that school was pretty terrible so far, or that she really just wanted to go home, and not to their new house, to their home in Forks… Nessie looked up into Jake’s face for a second, then enveloped him in a hug. Her hand wove around from behind and found his cheek, and she quickly though the frantic words that she’d been thinking all day: I really missed you.
Renesmee Cullen had missed Jacob Black – It was strange, being apart from him all the time. She hadn’t had to go to school in Forks, and now she was suddenly spending hours at a time away from Jake. It hadn’t been this way at home. She’d been able to be with Jacob the majority of the time. The main part of her free time was spent with Jake, if she wasn’t dragged off by her family or by Connor… All she knew was that she was missing the hours upon hours of free time she’d had in Forks to spend with Jake. Resting her head against his chest for a moment, she let go of the hug, and a brief blush crept out across her cheeks. While sometimes she wished she were all human, it was times that her blood betrayed her that she longed to be a full vampire. Sometimes, she imagined it was better this way – half and half, able to live on either blood or food, able to live forever… but other times, Nessie had to consider the benefits of only being one or the other.
Nessie’s hand dropped from Jake’s cheek as she stepped away. Talking was weird for her, but since she had already removed her hand from his face, she used her words. “What took you?” she asked, giving him a once over as she looked for any outward signs that would have kept him from her. She knew the wolves healed fast, though, and stopped looking – he would have had some time to heal before he found her, she reckoned. “Did something bad happen? You didn’t get mugged, did you?” He can’t have been mugged. It was a stupid thing to think of, and yet… Nessie glanced over his hulking figure a few more times, trying to find any evidence that someone had stolen anything from him. No one would mug her Jake. Nessie was highly possessive of Jacob, and so the very idea of anyone hurting him or “roughing him up” was deeply disturbing to her. She knew he could take care of himself, but he had always been there for her – she felt sort of responsible for him after she’d dragged him all the way to Dublin. Which, by the way, she did feel incredibly guilty about, considering all the trouble the Irish… Wolves… “Which one.” It quickly followed her question of Jake being mugged. Nessie was quite intelligent, and even though she was half human, her mind worked near as quickly as a vampire’s. Her thoughts came quickly, and she was pretty good at figuring things out. It probably shouldn’t have taken her as long as it did to put two and two together, but now she was pretty scorched. She really hoped she was wrong, though – if it had been one of the wolves who had kept Jacob from her – especially if it had been stupid, stupid Kieran… She just generally had a problem with the guy. Forgive her dirty mouth, but Nessie thought he was quite an ass. Either way, if it had been an Irish wolf who had kept Jake from getting to her on time, it would be pretty much her fault for dragging him along to Ireland. A wave of guilt passed over her, and her stomach knotted up. Nessie was sort of hoping that he’d just gotten mugged along the way…

& i will follow you wherever you may befrom the moment i first saw you knew my heart could not be free. THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER FOR ME, His pain around his abdomen had came and gone within three minutes of his receiving them. It wasn't the physical pain that still left him stinging however, it was the sheer hatred and amusement he'd seen in Ewan's eyes as Jacob was thrown around like a ragdoll in the living area. All this seemed to vanish, however, the moment Renesmee's thumb touched his cheek, featherlight and a natural pain-killer that made the back of his knees buckled. He closed his eyes, an exhausted sigh leaving his body as images of Nessie tapping her pencil boredly on the desk, her lips strung adorably to the side in a depressed pout, her sombre glances out the window, towards the woods, her voice echoing in his head, memorizing her words to heart where he kept everything related to her. His hands found hers, temporarily pinning them to his temples, nuzzling his head around in her palms for a minute, before he relinquished them and planted a soft kiss in her palm right before encasing her with his own massive arms, securing her niche against his chest.
Despite her being a hafling, Renesmee smelled very good to him. Her scent smelled like a honeysuckle to him, enhanced with a pinch of sugar that was obviously her vampire half. But the additional sweet scent she had about her, Jacob could easily overlook. He had to, he had no choice. Even if he'd wanted to, Jacob wouldn't be able to stand being more than ten miles away from her before he felt the steel cables reeling him back to her. Imprinting definitely had its ups and its downs. Sure, it showed him his perfect soul mate, the one person that made his existence meaningful but it came at a terrible price in exchange for knowing. There wasn't a time in Jacob's day when his mind didn't scream at him that he should be with Renesmee and not skulking about the wolves' house like a worthless bag of bones. It bothered him whenever she was at school, exposed to the other human teenagers and the spreadable diseases she could contract. As much as he hated to admit it, imprinting was probably the worst thing that had ever happened to him. It was a blessing and a curse, and one that Jacob couldn't escape.
Almost immediately Jacob felt his shoulders tense. He knew that Nessie would not hesitate to get to the point, she was never one to beat around the bush. He usually made it easier for her, seeing as he was pretty much useless when it came to keeping her out of his head to begin with. What took you? Did you get mugged? Which one? The interrogations all seemed to come rushing out all at once, leaving no room for him to think of a good excuse for his tardiness. The last thing he wanted to answer was the last question that issued from her lips for even as an imprinter, the last thing that he wanted was to have Renesmee fight his battles for him. As a dude, it kicked your self-esteem and dignity down several notches. In Ewan and Kieran's eyes, he was already so low that he wasn't even worthy to be informed of outings or reconaissance missions as it was, and actually wasn't sure how much lower his own meter could go. Instead, he would try to distract her, he figured. He reached out and cuffed her wrists with his own massive wrists, then softly angled his head slightly off to the side.
"Don't worry about it, Ness," he cooed, "I'm bulletproof, nothing to worry about. I highly doubt anybody would be stupid enough to try to mug me, honey."
Ignoring the last inquiry, Jacob released one of her wrists and used the other that he held onto to spin her around with little effort. She was so incredibly light, and her usually baggy clothes often made her look even smaller, like Jacob could pick her up with one finger. His extra hand extended to catch her as she came out of the spin, back into his chest. He didn't need to think about how to conduct himself when he was with her; he didn't need to act tough with her because Renesmee knew better than that. "I miss you, too. If I knew that I wouldn't see you later after you were done with school, I'd bet I'd lose my mind," Though Jacob really didn't need to tell her this, proof of him still lingering around her every moment she was awake when she wasn't busy was obvious enough. "Just think: five more years until you graduate! Then you can see me whenever you want, love, I promise." He added childishly, holding out a pinky to perform a pinky promise with her. "For now, I think it would really entertain your Dad to know you're getting an education... even though you've got the rest of forever to learn basic algebra."

SUPER TROUPER LIGHTS ARE GONNA FIND ME & b u t i w o n ' t f e e l b l u e l i k e i a l w a y s d o CUZ SOMEWHERE IN THE CROWD IS YOU - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
"Don't worry about it, Ness," he cooed, "I'm bulletproof, nothing to worry about. I highly doubt anybody would be stupid enough to try to mug me, honey."
As Nessie allowed herself to be spun in a tiny circle, she thought about Jake being bullet proof. He couldn’t have really been – that was her… to an extent. Sorta bullet proof. That wasn’t exactly what most wanted to hear – “It’s sorta bullet proof.” Falling back into Jake’s chest, she listened to the rest of what he was going to say, hearing it rumble though his rib-cage, the words having a fuzzy edge to them as she listened to them from in his chest.
"I miss you, too. If I knew that I wouldn't see you later after you were done with school, I'd bet I'd lose my mind. Just think: five more years until you graduate! Then you can see me whenever you want, love, I promise."
Nessie frowned – five whole years… how dreadful. She didn’t know if she could necessarily take five more years of monotony. Maybe she could drop out. It seemed reasonable… enough. Nessie pushed her lips out into a girlish pout before taking Jakes pinky in her own and shaking the pair quickly back and forth. Pinky promises were overrated – she’d find a way to get out of school earlier… maybe she’d skip a grade. She was smart – she could ask for a placement test and –
"For now, I think it would really entertain your Dad to know you're getting an education... even though you've got the rest of forever to learn basic algebra."
My point exactly, Nessie thought grumpily. She really did like the fact that school = friends = social life, which she hadn’t ever had much of, but some of the teacher seemed like they weren’t even trying when it came to making a subject entertaining. It was like work was some sort of obligation to them – you were supposed to find a job that you loved, not that you were obliged to perform. Gah, Nessie could never win. She hated teachers and school, and the only reason she would go back the next day was because she didn’t want to waste all of her sick days when she didn’t need to. She wanted to keep them for when she needed them – like when something interesting was happening around the town and she really, really wanted to go. OK, so that was a lame excuse. Maybe she would skip tomorrow. They she could do something fun for once.
“Speaking of forever,” she started, feeling as though it would easier to talk about ditching than try to express it in her thoughts. “I was thinking, I haven’t skipped in forever. Ever, actually. Uh, so I might… tomorrow…”
Nessie trailed off uncertainly. Her decision wasn’t final – it was anything but. She was just making a tentative suggestion – that was all. If the idea got any more solid, however, there would be no going back, because Nessie was pretty stubborn when she had to be – or wanted to be. And she felt confident that she could mold Jake like puddy in her hands if she needed to. Her mom and dad didn’t even have to know if she skipped – she’d leave the house like normal, then poof! Just not go to school. Maybe she’d just lounge somewhere, or do something fun and spontaneous. It was like that didn’t happen enough. Wrapping her finger around a bronze ringlet, Nessie looked up at Jake. She hadn’t even noticed she’d been staring at the ground as she spoke. She hoped he wouldn’t disagree.
Quickly, she continued, “Because I don’t get to have a lot of fun, really, do I? Wow, am I getting better at this talking thing? It feels like it...” Lie. For Nessie, every moment was a struggle to find the correct words to articulately express her feelings, thoughts, and sentiments. Telling Jake that she’d gotten better had been a mistake, but hopefully it would distract from her idea, which could result in anger. She didn’t want that. The truth was, Nessie was still very much struggling with talking out loud. She was really terrible at saying what she meant when she knew that she could do it so much better if she just showed her thoughts. Nessie didn’t know that anyone really fully understood how weird and difficult talking was for her – she could read out of a book flawlessly, but when it came to thinking and speaking on the spot, or holding an intelligent conversation, she was at a loss. It was far easier to show someone how she was thinking, or give someone a memory to further her thought. Talking was just… weird. Foreign, even though she’d been around people talking for her entire life. Words were not foreign, but speaking was. She didn’t know that she liked it all that much.
Pulling on the ringlet she’d fastened around her finger, Nessie rocked back and forth on her heels. She wouldn’t continue, because she believed strongly in the theory “If you’re in a hole, stop digging”. To put it simply, she was already in trouble, in a hole, so she should stop digging and let what was coming, come. The little half vampire pushed her teeth into her lip. She hated waiting, and making people upset with her, but she really did want a day off. If she already wanted a day off, though, what would the rest of the year be like? If she already wanted out and she wasn’t a month into school, wasn’t that a little hint as to what would come? Maybe she’d follow her family out when they all went on a hunting trip. It might look suspicious if she were the only one that came to school. Yeah, that was a good idea, save for the fact that Ireland was so freaking cloudy. And it wasn’t cloudy some of the time, it was all the freaking time. Yes, she’d learned to cuss from her family, but believe it or not, Nessie was a terribly deprived child. She almost never got sun because she always had to live in some godforsaken cloudy town. Yes, Forks, was much, much better than Dublin because of the people and the town and the animals and everything, but it was still cloudy. Clouds sucked a lot of the time. Pushing her teeth harder into her lip, she blinked, waiting for her idea to be shot down like a balloon hit by a bee-bee gun.

& i will follow you wherever you may befrom the moment i first saw you knew my heart could not be free. THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER FOR ME, God he loved it when Nessie stuck her lower lip out in a pout the way she did. Even when she was smiling, every look she made to Jacob resembled the face that she was purposely making now. Renesmee just had the kind of lips that permanently looked like a pout to him, she became to be quite good at utilizing it when she was just born, when she'd totally turned his world upside down. She was just beautiful all around, and that's what made her so dangerous to him. Renesmee could make Jacob do anything that she'd wanted and he'd instantly agree to it, because he knew that the result would make her happy. That was his sole reason for existing now: Renesmee's happiness, and Jacob couldn't change it, no matter how that he tried.
He often thought about what would happen after he died. Far too much for his own personal liking, but Jacob knew that he certainly wasn't getting any younger. Eventually Renesmee would stop aging altogether when she reached fifteen and then every birthday following would seem to fly by before her eyes. While Jacob was temporarily frozen in immortality, he knew in time that he would begin to age again. It was like menopause. A woman has her menstrual cycle for so long, and then she starts to begin to have dry spells. In a sense that's what Jacob would experience; his phasing would eventually slow up before it stopped altogether, and then he'd begin to age again. Jake often joked with himself that he'd probably look a hell of a lot younger than most people his age when he would stop phasing, to kind of make him feel better about something so inevitable. But what he worried about the most was how Renesmee would cope after his death. Would she turn to Connor Galloway, who would remain even after her death? Would that be who she would find to console her? Someone who was a little more... well, durable? Whose battery was unlimited?
Thinking of this, his arms wrapped around her shoulders and laid his head against her shoulder, nuzzling his forehead into the fabric of her blouse. God, she smelled so good. This was what he missed the most when she was gone; she was like his own sedative, a pain killer. Renesmee just had that strong of an effect on him. He then lifted his head off of her shoulder and rotated her around to meet him. Jacob tried to exclude himself from enough matters concerning Edward, Bella, and Renesmee the best that he could, when situations didn't already involve him to begin with. But of course, lately his name was often drug into family discussions, mostly concerning how much of her time Nessie actually spent with her family in comparison to him. Jacob visited the manor sometimes, sure, but for one: there was only so much of the much more heightened vampire smell that he could endure before he needed to step outside for a fraction of relief, and two: multiple vampire smells were much harder to wash off than a halfling stench. He could usually easily cover Renesmee's scent with AXE shampoo back home... that stuff was potent all by itself. Plus, Kieran was usually revolted with him any way when he walked through the door, and only intensified his disgust when he smelled the stenches of eight mature vampires clinging to his clothing. It was usually best if Jacob stayed away from Cullen manor, thought he made a few exceptions, if the overrall reward would greatly outweigh the consequences of the decision.
Jacob wasn't quite sure how to react to Nessie's propsal. Had Renesmee forgotten that her parents were both full blood vampires? They'd instantly be able to smell him on her when she would return home last night, and they'd more than likely smell more of it on her than usual. At least when she was at school, she came home with a combination of smells clinging to her: the day's lunch special, B.O. from the girl in gym class who collided with her, and the smell of the Chemistry experiments, and of course his own mingled somewhere in there from when he'd "walked" her to school. Skipping a whole day usually spelled out that Renesmee would demand the whole day with him, and Jacob knew automatically what his answer would be. It was this part that really put him in a sticky spot. Kieran already excluded him from pack matters, and his always running off with Nessie and his limited hours of availability made it increasingly easier for Kieran to purposely exclude him. Well maybe if you'd be around more, I might actually consider including you. Not likely, but there's the off chance that I could be a fair mood, he could hear Kieran's voice ringing in his head.
He pulled his hands away from Nessie's shoulders and began to pinch the bridge of his nose. "Renesmee--" he rarely ever used her full name; her full name was usually reserved if he had bad news to bear, or they were sharing an intimate moment together. But then he had to remember: the Cullens were infamous back in Forks for taking off school on the really sunny days for 'hiking trips', so in a way, how was Renesmee only picking one day to play hooky a terrible, nasty thing? It wouldn't be the first time Bella had yelled at him to backing a foolish proposal she made, in fact he was usually accused it being the other way around, the problem always seeming to be pinpointed right at him. Renesmee's sometimes more mature than you are, Jake. Who's ten and who's twenty-six? He let a low growl rumble in his chest, indicating the frustration he was feeling because he knew that Renesmee could pick up on it better than anybody could. Jacob could grunt and Nessie would know exactly what he meant; it was like some kind of form of dead language. Like Latin! Still, this time he could smell her grand master plan not blowing over too well with her parents. "It's up to you, sweetheart." He finally collapsed, his shoulders raising in a nonchalant way. This way he was neither supporting nor was he discouraging it. Renesmee was ten years old and probably twice the maturity level of her classmates. That probably roughly made her to be about in her late teens... right? "I'd love to be able to spend a day with you and only you, but, please remember, your Dad and Bella--" he rarely ever referred to Bella as Renesmee's mother; it was sounded far too weird to him, even after all of these years, "-- will be able to smell me on you. Probably more so than usual. I know how Bella is in Mom mode." At this he had chuckle.
Eleven years ago, Jacob could easily pictured Bella running around after two black-haired children in a house they occupied as husband and wife. An apron saying the comical, but cliched expression 'Kiss the Cook' tied tightly around her waist, screaming to Jake who would be somewhere in the house to help with capturing them. It was terribly awkward to know that she never had to deal with something like that; Renesmee had basically skipped her childhood as far as maturity went. Sometimes he felt that maybe Bella deserved a normal life like that, like she'd had almost too easy and Bella would someday regret it for not totally having an otherwise human experience. But if his life had gone that way, then Nessie would have never been a factor. And now that she was here, living, breathing and exhaling, encircling herself in everything that was he, Jacob Black, he couldn't picture how much better his life could have panned out. It was flawed, clearly, but Jacob probably wouldn't be as happy (or as close to it as he came lately) if Renesmee had never been part of the picture. Bella would have been his human life, as he would be hers if vampires and werewolves never existed. But what mattered to him now was Nessie: her happiness and their life together while Jake remained on the Earth.
He had smiled at her, a kind of smile that he reserved just for her. It was soft, as in his features didn't totally distort his face in wrinkles, but his lips still stretched so that they touched both sides of his jaw. Jake slid a finger under her chin and brought it to him slowly, planting a featherlight kiss across her soft, alabaster pale skin. "Whatever you decide, Nessie, is fine with me."
